Part stardust, part showgirl, Tanya has been honing her lifetime body of artistic work from a young age. After pursuing classical piano and opera, she discovered ballet, which consumed many years of her developmental period. Spending summers at prestigious and highly competitive schools such as San Francisco Ballet School and School of American Ballet (New York City), she blew into town at the age of 16 to study on scholarship at Pacific Northwest Ballet School, and knew she’d found her home. Since then, she has had many adventures, played in a band, earned a degree from the University of Washington, and become one of the most sought-after aerial performers in town. Now in her 9th year of aerial work, she loves the circus arts more than ever. It is the perfect medium to combine her amassed classical training with the elegance, joy, and freedom she imbues into her art.
Currently teaching, training, and sculpting movement into art as an aerial instructor at Versatile Arts in Greenwood and SANCA in Georgetown, she can also be found in residence at The Pink Door Monday nights and Club Q Saturday nights. In 2014 she joined the cast of The Acrobatic Conundrum on tour to Chicago, where they performed original work at the first annual Chicago Contemporary Circus Festival. Upon her return, she joined the cast of The Atomic Bombshells as a permanent member, and is creating new work with them.
In high demand around town, she has become a staple at the annual Moisture Festival, the Pacific Northwest’s largest display of interdisciplinary talent from around the globe. She has performed alongside Queensryche, the Rat City Rollergirls, at late night variety at Teatro ZinZanni, and with the cast of Seattle Vice at Act Theater. Other highlights include working with Club Med resorts as a Circus Program Advisor and Guest Performer, where she has made appearances in locales such as Turks/Caicos islands and Ixtapa, Mexico. She has done a contract in Ireland, performing in the likes of castles and international art festivals with Fidget Feet Aerial Dance. She frequently joins Super Geek League onstage as a guest artist, working festivals that draw up to 20,000 attendees. Corporate clients have included: Microsoft, BMW, Carnival Cruiselines, The Detlef Schrempf Foundation, Jameson’s, Suncadia Resort, Aegis Living, Cadillac, and The University of Oregon.
To see Tanya perform is to watch a world unfold where are things are possible, and light and shadow are both given their due. Blending classical lines with sensual drama and possessing a formidable strength to flexibility ratio, she is an aerial storyteller, a dream guide, a pin up girl, and provocateur.
